Coinbase VP Says Wide Crypto Adoption Requires ‘Moderate, Sensible’ Rules
Tom Duff Gordon, vice president of international policy at Coinbase (COIN), told CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover” broadcasting from the World Economic Forum at Davos 2023 that crypto’s long-term adoption success depends on clear regulatory guardrails.
Mainstream adoption will depend on regulation that can then “generate confidence for retailers,” Duff said. “2023 for us could be a real inflection point in policy and a regulatory framework could be one of those things that helps to accelerate the accelerator side of the crypto downturn.”
Gordon went on to say that the proper kind of guardrails could be set by the G20, and that they must be “sensible and moderate.”
“We’ll see more institutional investors getting into crypto but I think we will see more traditional finance banks also beginning to explore this space,” Gordon said.
All of which we think sounds good in theory, but we would want to see the details. One person’s sensible is another person’s onerous.
