Cointelegraph: Top 5 Winners and Losers of 2022
The old saying in the news business is “If it bleeds, it leads.” Bad news always overshadows the good. While there is no doubt 2022 was a rough year for the crypto industry that saw collapses and losses, grifters come and go, and a slew of regulators and central bankers who would just as soon see DeFi deconstructed, there were winners too.
After all, there is a sense of perspective needed here. As we noted in July, the
consumer price index for the 12 months ending June 2022 hit 9.1%. Meanwhile, between January 2020 and June 2022, Bitcoin went from about $8,150 to about $21,600, a 265% increase in value. And that was despite losing 60% of its value since October 2021. And by way of comparison, the S&P 500 during that same January 2020-to-June 2022 timeframe went from 3,235 to about 3,800, a 17% increase.
So as the year ends, Cointelegraph brings us the top 5 best performing cryptos of 2022, and here’s to a much better 2023.
