Social trust, social capital and trust in government has been on a rapid decline since at least the 1960s. Sociologist Robert Putnam documented this in his 2000 work, “Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community,” and his findings have been repeatedly replicated in other studies since. Every year, the Edelman Trust Barometer measures and shows that people’s trust in society steadily falling, and 2022 was no different.
